The Department of Justice's policy for the Temporary Protection Transition Scheme says any document not in English must be translated by a qualified professional translator, who confirms it is a true and accurate translation, dates it and gives a full name and contact details. Untranslated documents will not be considered. Our TPTS document translation covers exactly that: a full English version of each Ukrainian or Russian certificate with a signed statement carrying all of those details, delivered as a PDF ready to upload to the ISD portal.
Since the scheme opened, most of the Ukrainian files sent to us have been small family sets: a marriage certificate plus one or two children's birth certificates. The most frequent request is that names follow the Latin spelling in each person's passport, so we ask for passport copies before we start rather than transliterate on our own.

Where TPTS translations are usually used
The scheme policy asks for at least one identity document per applicant, such as a passport, national ID card or, for children, a birth certificate. A child under 18 in the family application needs a birth certificate naming at least one of the adults as a biological parent. A spouse is linked by a marriage certificate, and anyone previously married is asked for the divorce, annulment or death record that ended the earlier marriage. Each of these needs an English translation if it was issued in Ukrainian or Russian.
International passports already show names and details in English, so they rarely need translating. The civil certificates are another matter: current Ukrainian birth and marriage certificates are written in Ukrainian, and many older ones, from the Soviet period in particular, are in Russian. Custody papers or a consent letter from a parent who is not applying can also come into it where a child lives with one parent.
The policy and FAQs are published on gov.ie, and the portal itself shows the checklist for each family member. Those are the final word on what you upload. We translate what your checklist asks for and nothing more, so you do not pay for papers ISD has not requested.
Based on the Ukrainian enquiries we have received since the scheme opened
Showing the parent named in the family application, with every stamp translated.
Linking the principal applicant and spouse, including any change of surname.
Sometimes requested where an adult's identity papers are limited.
Where an earlier marriage has to be shown as ended.
Court orders or parental consent letters for a child living with one parent.
Each family member makes a separate application under the principal applicant's family identifier, so documents tend to arrive as a set. These are the cases we see most.
A couple with one or two children is the most common file. The marriage certificate links the adults and each birth certificate links a child to a parent. We translate the set together, so a surname or patronymic reads the same way across all of the documents.
The principal applicant submits a separate form for each child under 18. The child's birth certificate is the key document, and the parents' names on it must line up with their passports, so we check every spelling before delivery.
Plenty of adults hold birth or marriage certificates issued in Russian, either before 1991 or in regions where Russian forms were used. The translation is the same certified English version, simply done by a translator working from Russian.
Where an applicant was married before, the record that ended that marriage usually belongs in the file. Ukrainian divorce certificates and court decisions follow different layouts, and we translate the registry stamps and case numbers in full on both.
Some families already had certificates translated when they first arrived. If those older versions lack the translator's contact details or a date, or spell names differently from current passports, a fresh certified version avoids a query from ISD.
If ISD asks for a clearer copy or questions a detail, we reissue the translation free of charge. For an appeal, which the policy says goes by email within 30 working days of the decision, we can turn corrected versions round the same day.
Enquiries linked to the scheme started arriving within days of its opening on 30 September 2026. The documents are familiar, but the way people describe the purpose varies, and a few details come up again and again.
Passport spelling comes first. Ukrainian names can be romanised several ways, and an older document may use a Russian form of the same name. Clients now ask us, before anything else, to match the spelling in each passport. We do that and keep the original form in brackets where it helps a reader connect the two.
People ask for the accuracy declaration by name. Several clients quoted the policy wording back to us: a declaration that the translation is true and accurate, with the date, the translator's full name and contact details. Every certified translation we send already carries all of these, signed on the final page.
Notarisation is rarely needed. The TPTS policy asks for a professional translator's confirmation, not a notary's stamp, and most clients choose a certified PDF only. If another body later asks for notarised copies, we can add that without retranslating.
The purpose is often labelled loosely. We see the same TPTS family file described as citizenship, legal use or a new permission. That does not change the translation, but it helps to tell us it is for TPTS, so the delivery note and file names match what you upload.
These five points save most rework on a TPTS file
We match every name to the Latin spelling in the passport, not to our own transliteration.
Ukrainian certificates often have stamps or apostilles on the back that need translating too.
Translate what ISD asks each family member for, nothing extra.
Sending all certificates together keeps surnames and patronymics consistent.
Applications close on 30 March 2027, so flag any date you are working to.
Most TPTS files are in Ukrainian or Russian, but a family set can include a certificate from a spouse's country of birth or a document issued elsewhere in Europe.
Four steps, all online. Your originals stay with you.
Upload clear photos or scans of each certificate, plus passport copies for the names, by form, email or WhatsApp.
You receive an itemised quote, usually within 15 minutes, before any work begins.
A native translator works from the Ukrainian or Russian original and a second reader checks names, dates and registration numbers.
You get one signed PDF per document, named so each family member's upload is easy to find.
These extracts are samples only. Every name, date and number shown is invented to illustrate layout and wording.
Send a photo and we will tell you what the English version will cover and what it will cost.
Every document comes back with the details the scheme policy lists.
Every field, stamp and handwritten note rendered in English, not a summary.
Confirms the translation is true and accurate, with the date and the translator's full name.
A phone number and email on the statement, so ISD can verify the translation if needed.
Names follow the Latin spelling in each family member's passport.
A PDF for the portal upload, with signed copies posted anywhere in Ireland on request.
If ISD queries a detail, we correct and reissue at no charge.
Single certificates are priced per document. A family set is quoted together so you see the full cost for every member's application before you approve.

Translations built around the scheme's own wording, by people who read Ukrainian and Russian natively.
If a name or date is questioned, we correct or clarify it and reissue at no cost.
Native Ukrainian and Russian translators, so an older Russian-language certificate is no problem.
Our translators are affiliated with the Irish Translators' and Interpreters' Association.
Most single certificates are back within 24 hours of approving the quote.
A second reader checks each name, date and act record number.

This page is about one purpose: the Temporary Protection Transition Scheme. For Ukrainian documents going anywhere else, such as a college, an employer or the PPS office, see our Ukrainian to English certified translation service. For a visa, IRP renewal or other permission that is not TPTS, our general immigration document translation page covers it. Older certificates written in Russian are handled through our Russian translation for Irish applications.
Once Stamp 4 is in place, many families turn to other paperwork. Swapping a Ukrainian licence may need a translated driving licence for the NDLS, and since time on the permission counts towards naturalisation, later applicants use our citizenship application translations.
Send your certificates and passport copies, and we will return certified TPTS translations ready for the ISD portal.
