SUSI only accepts supporting documents in English or Irish, and its own guidance says any foreign-language document should come with a certified English or Irish translation. Our SUSI grant document translation covers what your request letter lists: foreign tax returns, income and pension certificates, employment records and birth certificates. Each one is translated in full, with a signed statement of accuracy, and sent back as a PDF you can print and post with your photocopies.
The SUSI files we have handled recently show the spread: a Spanish tax return with a vida laboral and bank paperwork, several French birth certificates for one household, and a Ukrainian pension income certificate. In each case the request letter came first, so we quote from that letter and translate only what it asks for.

Where SUSI-related translations end up
SUSI's page on submitting documents is direct about language: documents are only accepted in English or Irish, and anything in another language needs a translated copy. The sections on foreign income, self-employment accounts and pensions each repeat that a foreign-language document should be accompanied by a certified English or Irish translation. For a birth certificate in another language, SUSI asks for an official English translation alongside the photocopy.
You do not send a fixed set of papers up front. After the online application, SUSI issues a provisional decision with a personalised list of supporting documents, and that list sets the scope. Reckonable income is gross income from all sources, inside and outside the State, and for 2026/27 the period assessed is 1 January to 31 December 2025. Income earned abroad in that year is therefore the usual reason a translation is needed.
For foreign income, SUSI asks for official documentation from a government department or equivalent showing everything received from outside Ireland in 2025. For a pension paid from overseas, it wants official confirmation of the total paid in 2025. Residence evidence can also come into it, and some of that, such as a foreign bank statement, may not be in English. Your letter is the final word on what is needed.
Based on the SUSI enquiries we receive
An annual return such as a Spanish declaración de la renta, with every box and total.
A pension fund statement of amounts paid, month by month where shown.
Social security work histories such as the Spanish vida laboral, tables intact.
Used as income or residence evidence when the letter asks for them.
For the student or for dependants named in the household details.
These are the situations that send SUSI applicants and their parents to us. Each one has a different detail that matters most.
If a parent earned income in Spain, France or elsewhere during the assessed year, SUSI wants official proof of it. A tax return or an employer statement from that country is the usual answer, and every amount must appear in the translation exactly as printed.
Pensions paid by a foreign fund need official confirmation of the 2025 total. Certificates from bodies like the Pension Fund of Ukraine often cover a longer stretch, so we translate the full period shown and leave each month's figure where it sits.
Some letters ask for birth certificates for the student and for dependent children counted in the household. We have done batches of French certificates for this, keeping the names, dates and registry references consistent across every copy.
A Spanish vida laboral lists every employer and contribution period on record. When it is used alongside a tax return to show what changed in 2025, we keep the table layout so the dates and regime codes stay easy to follow.
SUSI's residence rule looks at three of the last five years across Ireland, the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. If part of that time was spent abroad, a foreign bank statement or similar record may be on your list and need translating.
Each SUSI request letter gives a return date. If you are short of time, our same-day option helps, and SUSI's own advice is to contact its support desk before the deadline if a document is going to be late.
SUSI work looks routine from the outside, but the documents involved are often dense tax and pension forms, and the cost adds up quickly for a student household. These are the patterns we see most.
Start from the letter, not the folder. One family sent a full set of Spanish tax returns, a vida laboral, bank statements and other financial papers, and was worried about the total cost. Checking each item against SUSI's request letter showed which ones were actually listed, and that is what we quoted.
Keep figures in the original currency. A Ukrainian pension certificate shows amounts in hryvnia, and a Spanish return shows euro amounts in Spanish number format. We reproduce each figure as issued and do not convert or round anything, because the assessment is SUSI's job, not the translator's.
Watch the period covered. A pension certificate we translated ran across 2025 and 2026, while SUSI assesses 2025 income for this academic year. We translate the whole certificate so nothing looks cut away, and the 2025 months remain clearly labelled.
Match names across a batch. When several French birth certificates go in for one family, a surname with or without an accent can look like two different people. We use one agreed spelling throughout and keep the original form visible where it differs.
These five points save most rework
It shows exactly which documents are listed, so you pay only for those.
Tax returns and work histories have annexes and back pages that SUSI may expect to see.
Give us the spelling used on your SUSI application for each person named.
For 2026/27, income evidence should cover 1 January to 31 December 2025.
SUSI asks for your application number on every document you post.
These are the languages that come up most in the enquiries we receive, including the SUSI files described above. Native-speaker translators handle each one.
Four steps, built around the list in your SUSI letter.
Email or WhatsApp clear scans or phone photos, plus the SUSI request letter if you have it.
We price each listed document and you approve the total before any work starts.
A native-speaker translator works through every field, then a second check compares figures and dates against the original.
You get a signed PDF of each translation to print and post with your photocopies, with paper copies posted in Ireland on request.
The three extracts below use invented sample data. No names, numbers or amounts belong to a real person; the field names follow the real documents.
Send us a photo of the request letter and the documents, and we will tell you what the letter covers before you pay anything.
Every SUSI order comes with the same set of essentials.
Every stamp, table, annex and handwritten note, nothing summarised.
A dated statement from a named translator with contact details.
Amounts, dates and reference numbers compared against the original before delivery.
Tax and income papers are seen only by the team working on your file.
A signed PDF to print, and posted copies anywhere in Ireland on request.
If SUSI queries a detail in the translation, we correct and reissue it free.
Prices are per document, so a short birth certificate and a long tax return are quoted on their own terms. You see the total before you agree.

Starting prices; itemised quote approved before work starts. Our translation fee is separate from anything SUSI decides.
A grant application is stressful enough without a translation being queried. Here is what we do to avoid that.
If SUSI raises a point about the translation itself, we fix it and send a new copy at no charge.
Box numbers, codes and footnotes on tax and pension forms are all rendered, not skipped.
Our translators are ITIA-affiliated native speakers of the source language.
Most single documents are back within 24 hours, with same day available for close deadlines.
A second review compares every number and date with the original before you receive it.
Tax returns and bank records are handled privately and never used for anything else.

This page is only about documents requested for a SUSI grant. If you need company accounts, audits or financial reports translated for a bank, Revenue or a business purpose, see our financial document translation service. Statements needed for a visa, a mortgage or opening an account are covered under certified bank statement translation.
Applying to the college itself is a separate step from funding it. Grades and diplomas for CAO or university admission go through transcript translation for Irish admissions. If a birth certificate is needed for something other than SUSI, such as immigration or citizenship, our foreign birth certificate translation page explains the options. Many of our Spanish files, including tax and social security records, are described on the Spanish to English translation page.
Send us your SUSI request letter and the documents it lists, and we will return a signed certified translation of each one, ready to print and post.
